I'm really excited to share with you my plans for the next four upcoming kits. They are all part of a home décor range I am doing and the kits will be released over the next three months. My inspiration was my bedroom, in particular, just how uninspiring it is! When we moved into our house almost two years ago, we decorated every room within three months, except our bedroom. The walls are white and there is a feature wall of lace wallpaper in neutral tones. Our furniture is cream and we bought complementary cream curtains. I like the calm and relaxing feel I get from this room but now I am ready to inject some personality and colour into it. I want to create objects that are personal and reflect my love of all things handmade. There are handmade pieces dotted around my entire house but our bedroom is completely lacking so I decided it was time to get designing. I began with our bed. I love embroidered pillowcases and I decided I wanted to create some for our room. My inspiration was the beautiful daisies that were popping up all over the place. I designed the Daisy Chain pattern to fit down the edge of the pillowcase. I love the look of white embroidery on white fabric but I decided to stitch onto pale duck egg blue pillowcases. The result is really elegant and was very enjoyable to stitch and it worked up quite quickly. I love the muted tones of the embroidery thread palette that I chose for this but it can of course be stitched in any colour palette. I have released some kits into the shop which contain full instructions as well as the pattern in three different sizes. You can choose to stitch this pattern onto anything, it doesn't have to be a pillowcase. I think it would look beautiful on a Peter Pan collar of a blouse or around the hem of a little girl's dress. As the pattern is a repetition, you can extend the length of it to suit your project by tracing it more than once, joining the ends as you go. Each kit contains a lot more thread than you will need to stitch a pair of pillowcases so you can customise this however you wish. To help you with the embroidery stitches you will need for this project, check out the stitch dictionary page to watch free video tutorials of each one.
Stay tuned for the next kit release in the home décor series, here's a little clue, it's something to decorate your walls with.
